High impact resistance

Ductile iron pipe has high impact strength and toughness to withstand the impacts typically encountered during transportation, handling and installation. These characteristics also provide additional safety against stresses caused by water hammer, highway traffic and unexpected adverse forces. Excellent impact resistance is confirmed by periodic testing according to ANSI/AWWA C151/A21.51.

Energy Savings and Lower Pumping Costs

Head loss in piping is directly related to ID, as is energy consumption and consequent pumping costs. Therefore, the use of ductile iron piping with an ID greater than the nominal ID can result in significant energy savings over a period of years. In addition to helping keep operating costs and utility rates reasonable, this energy savings is good for the environment.
